EUPD Research recently published the results of the 14th edition of the Global PV InstallerMonitor 2021/2022© for the Australian market. The survey sheds light on the rooftop photovoltaic (PV) segment in Australia, and provides exclusive insights from the perspective of the PV installers.
The Australian PV market has been prospering, whereas the residential segment remains the main driver. Furthermore, over the last 12 months the share of installers, who already offer or are planning to offer energy storage solutions, has further increased.
Bonn, 26 April 2022
The Australian PV market continued its strong growth of recent years, and added around 5.2 GW of newly installed photovoltaic capacity in 2021. The residential segment of PV installations up to 10 kWp accounted for a lion’s share of the total installed capacity last year.
The Global PV InstallerMonitor 2021/2022© by EUPD Research targets installers in selected core PV markets. This year, 200 Australian installation companies participated in the survey. The report provides exclusive insights on the latest developments of the rooftop PV segment in Australia.
The results show that currently 54 % of the surveyed installers in Australia already offer energy storage to their customers, compared to 41 % from last year’s survey. A further 30 % are planning to include storage solutions in their portfolio by the end of 2022. The remaining 16 % of the sample group currently neither offer energy storage, nor is planning to do so in the foreseeable future.
When asked about the main reasons not to include energy storage in their portfolios, the Australian installers listed economic reasons (too high prices and, as a result, too low margins) ahead of a lack of expertise and the consequent high demand for training. These are just some of the results that will show manufacturers and wholesalers how to align their product- and service portfolios based on the demands of the key market intermediaries down under.
This year’s version of the Global PV InstallerMonitor 2021/2022© for the Australian market as usual focusses on the recurring topics such as which module-, inverter- or storage brands installers carry in their portfolio, how and where they purchase their components, and to which extent they are satisfied with the brands they offer. For the very first time this year, installers were also surveyed in regards to which mounting structure manufacturers they know, offer and are willing to recommend.
The results of the latest Australian edition of the Global PV InstallerMonitor 2021/2022© were presented by Saif Islam, Senior Consultant at EUPD Research, during the “ Market Briefing Australia” at Solar & Storage DigiCon. The presentation can be revisited here.
