Building largest solar plant in the Czech Republic

Prague Daily Monitor, January 11, 2010 – "Power producer CEZ is building a solar power station in south Bohemia that should become the largest power plant using solar energy in the Czech Republic, daily Lidove noviny (LN) has said. The plant, located near Sevetin, some 20 kilometres north of Ceske Budejovice, should be completed in a year's time.

Its expected output of 30 megawatts is almost three times higher than the output of the largest Czech solar power station so far. [...] Solar panels of the new plant will cover an area of almost 60 hectares, that is a size of around 80 football pitches, the paper said. [...] Photovoltaic power stations have seen a boom in the Czech Republic lately. According to data from the Czech Energy Regulatory Office (ERU), their number grew by two-thirds in the first half of last year compared with end-2008. Analysts say one of the the reasons behind the boom is a favourable purchasing price of electricity from renewable resources, above all from solar plants, offered by the ERU."
