Our media analysis consists of quantitative and qualitative
content studies. The basic population represents Germany’s most
important and influential print media including national and regional
newspapers as well as leading business and news magazines.
Newspaper articles referring to the subject area are the units of
analysis. Those are identified by means of key word search.
Subsequently, texts are recorded with the help of a code book
and thus prepared for statistical analyses.
Contents are evaluated uni- and bivariately and are visualized by
graphs. We use frequency analyses in order to detect the attention
being dedicated to specific aspects. Additionally, valence analyses
help to identify the evaluations that are associated with different
topics.
Thereafter, the qualitative content analysis follows. Its aim is to
interprete the results of the quantitative evaluation against the
background of current political and economic developments. Thus, it
is possible to track argumentation patterns of opinion leaders and
to identify suggested political decisions. |

Media analysis in the core area Energy & Utilities
In the core area Energy & Utilities, media analysis examines
the image of renewable energy forms, in particular of photovoltaics
in the media. It delivers answers to the following questions:
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
 |
How many potential
readers have been reached by an article giving a favorable
or unfavorable opinion about renewable energies?
|
 |
Which subjects are discussed the most? Which
contents caused favorable, neutral or negative publications?
|
 |
What positive or negative images are attributed
to regenerative energy sources? |
 |
Which energy
forms are assessed positively or negatively? Is a competition
between different renewable energies observable?
|
 |
Which newspapers have a negative or positive
attitude towards renewables? |
 |
Which
political parties support alternative energy forms and
which political parties have a critical attitude towards
renewables? Which argumentation patterns are used? Which
decisions can be foreshadowed? |
 |
Who are the spokesmen of associations and economy?
Which targets do they pursue? |
 |
As a whole, is the
public discussion developing in favor of or to the disadvantage
of alternative energy sources? |
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
Evaluations are visualized by means of figures. In
the context of interpretation, results are conflated and analyzed
against the background of current economic and political developments.
