The German Photovoltaic Market 2007/08 –

Interviewed
companies/method:
The German photovoltaic market has been developing into one of the fastest growing technology markets worldwide. Despite massive capacity increases, demand could not be fully satisfied until now. More than 300 companies actively working in the sector were interviewed within the context of a company survey, with the changes that occur in the value chain between manufacturers, wholesalers and installers analyzed.
The result:
With a total installed capacity of 2,639 MWp in 2006 and a market volume of 1,500 MWp in 2007 Germany is the "photovoltaic champion". The current market development also provides clearly positive effects on the labor market: At the end of 2007, around 41,300 people worked in the fields of manufacturing, sales and installation of photovoltaic plants in Germany alone. This enormous growth is assisted by a general decline in system prices; an indicator that the industry is responding to the increasing pressure of prices.

Added Value of the Survey:
The survey presents a broad overview of the market development of photovoltaics and the recent dynamic changes within the market. It also explains the trends and shifts that can be expected in the market. The survey again focuses on the installer as the most important sales agent, while at the same time highlighting the end customer. Addressing new buyer groups and a profound analysis of buying decisions remain the focal points.
In addition to the current conditions and a comprehensive evaluation of the German PV market, the analysis covers the different links along the whole value chain. Field research among installing companies and wholesalers clarifies trends in the purchase and sales market and analyses the price development and the situation in the end customer segment. In contrast to comparable surveys solely analyzing the parts of the supply chain that are relevant for the capital market, this study generates deeper insights: This is due to the evaluation of the value chain as a whole with focus on the developments in the sales market. Thus, the results are worth reading for market participants, analysts, research institutes, interested market observers and potential newcomers.
