THE GERMAN PHOTOVOLTAIC MARKET 2006 -
FROM EXCESS DEMAND TO COMPETITION

The German photovoltaic sector is growing. Only during the last year, a photovoltaic capacity of about 600 MW has been newly installed, the sector’s turnover increased to about 3.7 bn Euros. The new booming industry creates employment; crafts enterprises and the producing industry have the biggest share in these new jobs. Simultaneously, market participants have to cope with the silicon shortage, which has led to increasing prices, and a decreasing feed-in tariff. Here, a sectoral and political counter- steering is required.
Answers to the questions of how the sector is meeting the challenges or how the photovoltaic industry is developing can be found in the current EuPD Research survey „The German Photovoltaic Market 2006 – From Excess Demand to Competition”, being available from July 2006.

EuPD Research interviewed a representative number of market participants as well as officials of associations and experts concerning the development of the German solar power market. On this basis, the survey „The German Photovoltaic Market 2006 – From Excess Demand to Competition“ was created in cooperation with the German Solar Industry Federation (BSW), the Central Association of the German Electrical and Information Technology Industry (ZVEH), the Central Association of the Roofers' Craft (ZVDH) as well as the Central Organization for the Sanitary, Heating and Climatization Industries (ZVSHK).
Besides the developments regarding the value-added chain between producer, wholesaler and installer, insights into new trends on the sales market take center stage of the survey. The price development within the end customer business as well as the significance of photovoltaics as a “job motor” are analyzed in addition.
